Lisa Mills
Lisa has been practising law since 1993, initially as an attorney and later as a solicitor of England and Wales (admitted there after passing the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test), before being called to the bar in 2000. Lisa practiced as a solicitor at a large firm in London, Barlow Lyde and Gilbert, from 1998-2000, specialising in professional indemnity litigation.
Lisa has a Masters degree in maritime law and specialises in Maritime Law and International Trade. She also has a keen interest in Intellectual Property Law, having appeared several times in the Patent Court in Pretoria, both on her own and as junior counsel. She has a successful commercial practice, including inter alia insurance, insolvency, contractual disputes, banking and property-related litigation, including sectional titles. Lisa has appeared in the Supreme Court of Appeal, Patent Court, Admiralty Courts, Tax Appeal court and most of the High Courts throughout South Africa.
Lisa has been an advocacy trainer for the GCB since 2012. Lisa is the President of the Maritime Lawyers Association of South Africa, and head of its arbitration initiative. Lisa has acted as a Judge of the KwaZulu-Natal High Court and presides as an arbitrator in commercial cases. She is married with two teenage children and enjoys travelling and hiking.
