Sandhya Mahabeer SC
Sandhya is a former attorney who joined the KZN Bar in 2002. She has a civil practice specialising in property law, public law, municipal law, procurement disputes, construction and engineering disputes, administrative law and arbitrations. She has appeared in various appeal tribunals, as a junior and as silk in various divisions of the High Court, in the Supreme Court of Appeal and in the Constitutional Court.
Sandhya has been appointed as an acting judge of the KwaZulu Natal High on numerous occasions and currently serves as a panelist on the Financial Services Tribunal.
She has represented members of the KZN Bar through her involvement on the KZN Society of Advocates Bar Council as assistant honourary secretary, as a silk representative, as the convenor of the Bar Transformation and Skills Development Sub-Committees and, between 2022 and 2024, as the first female Chair. Sandhya has additionally served as the Deputy-Chair of Advocates for Transformation (Coastal Region).
She is on the editorial committee of ‘ADVOCATE’ magazine, a professional journal published by the General Council of the Bar of South Africa.
Silk status was conferred upon Sandhya in 2019.
