Philile Shandu
Philile Shandu holds an LLB degree from the University of South Africa and is an LLM candidate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (specialising in Constitutional Law).
Her pre-practise experience includes having been a Business Developer and Business Solutions Consultant in the private sector and a junior lecture at Mangosuthu University of Technology.
During her time in academia, she worked as a reviewer for the publication of South African Employment Relations: Theory and Practice 9th edition (van Schaik Publishers) and a contributor in the 10th edition, under the supervision of Prof B Erasmus (UNISA) She has also been published in the peer-review journal PSLR. Her keen interest in legal development through academic research persists and she anticipates to publish more in her areas of interest.
After having completed her pupillage in 2021 under the mentorship of Advocate Megan Sponneck, Philile’s practise focuses mainly on civil litigation including, but not limited to family law, third party claims, labour law and administrative law.
Her main areas of interest are African customary law, alternative dispute resolution and administrative law.
Since being called to the Bar in 2022, her participation in Bar activities include contributing to the Advocate journal, being selected as a delegate for the 2023 GCB Future Leaders’ Symposium and being appointed as a member of the International Panel of Evaluators (memorial assessor) in the 2023 International Bar Association International Criminal Court Moot Competition held at The Hague, Netherlands.
