Stephen Ronald Mullins SC

Steve completed his BA LLB at the University of Cape Town in 1981.

He completed articles at one of the major firms in Durban, was admitted as an attorney in 1984, and admitted as a partner of the firm in 1986. He resigned in 1988 to commence practise as an advocate, which he has done ever since. He took silk in 2003.

Steve’s principal speciality is maritime law and international trade and he is generally regarded as a leading silk in this field. He lectures in the LLM (maritime law) programme at the University of Kwazulu-Natal, and has done so for some 10 years. But his practice is not restricted to that area of law. Apart from general commercial and insurance law, he also specialises in medical malpractice law. Steve also has experience in urban planning law. Steve has appeared regularly in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Steve has also served as an acting judge of the High Court of KwaZulu-Natal. He has provided opinions on matters of South African law to foreign courts.

Steve is involved in advocacy training in which both pupil advocates and more experienced advocates are provided with training in court craft. He also served for many years as the chairperson of the professional complaints committee of the Society of Advocates of KwaZulu-Natal.

Steve is married with 3 adult daughters. He tries to keep reasonably fit rowing (sculling on Durban harbour) and MTB cycling.
